Finish: Medium

I am quite surprised at the G&M Glen Elgin distilled 1998 bottled 2014 at 46%, from refill sherry butts, and a refill sherry hogshead. Testing the nose and expecting varnish and got what seems like a very mild phenol smell to it, along with very old dry apricots, and a sense of a historic adventure into a mothballed Victorian machine shop. The taste has that same mild phenol thing going on, its dry and dusty, not oily, watery even. The taste is interesting and complex, I have difficulty describing it; yet I want to drink more. Definitely a session whisky, one to have at the end of an evening in a remote hut with the fire going and heavy rain outside. The finish is short and it is slightly oily at the end. As the dram is consumed I reach out for a refill...
